Lawyer Referral Services and the Bar Association in Contra Costa County, California
Contra Costa County Bar Association (CCCBA)
CCCBA's membership stands at more than 1,700 and includes attorneys of all experience levels and from a wide geographic area. It also has law students, legal support staff, and business professionals. Among its services are:
Lawyer Referral Service
If you decide you would like to meet with an attorney, either for advice and guidance or to represent you and handle your case, you can contact the Bar Association . For a small fee, they will refer you to a lawyer familiar with your case type.
Limited Scope Representation
If you like to do things yourself, and you want to save money, you can work with a lawyer that can guide you through the court process and your family law problem. Limited Scope Representation means that you are using a limited amount of your lawyer’s time to help you with your family law legal matter—in order to save money. After thoroughly discussing all aspects of your case with your lawyer, you and the lawyer decide which parts of the case you can do yourself (with or without "coaching") and which parts really need to be handled by a lawyer.
Moderate Means Program
When many hardworking people have a legal problem they are caught between ineligibility for free legal aid and inability to pay regular rates for private practicing attorneys. This program refers qualified individuals to its panel of family law and immigation attorneys who have agreed to charge reduced hourly rates and a reduced retainer fee.
The Law Center
This organization refers and directs people to Contra Costa County resources where they might be able to get help with their legal matter. In addition, they match pro bono attorneys with clients who do not qualify for assistance through existing service providers and who cannot afford paid representation. The Law Center operates in cooperation with the Contra Costa Bar Association and its Pro Bono Committee and with other local aid agencies.
